We offer an in person support group twice per month on the 2nd & 4th Sundays out of Time Out Youth in Charlotte. We also have a Facebook group where you can communicate with others online. Both groups are open to all adults 18 and older. We hope to use the new Time Out Youth space to expand and have multiple support groups in the future as needed for people who would like a private space to talk about specific issues that are important to them.
Part of what inspired us to do this was the lack of support for transgender adults in the area. Our TransCloset is specifically focused on supporting adults as they transition. Buying a new wardrobe is expensive and stressful, especially when you are figuring out how to express yourself authentically for the first time. We offer a safe space to go through a variety of clothes, so you can discover what works for you. All of our clothes are free to transgender people and anyone struggling with issues related to gender expression.
Transcend Counseling is a counseling service provided onsite at Transcend Charlotte’s main office. We specialize in working with transgender individuals, survivors of sexual abuse/assault and other traumatic experiences, and individuals struggling with depression, anxiety (generalized anxiety, PTSD, social anxiety, etc.) and other mental health issues. Contact Trey Greene directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 704-350-5452 if you would like to set up an appointment or click here for more information.
It is vital that community agencies, organizations, and service providers receive education on how to support transgender and other diverse employees and clients. We also want to use this service to help individuals, groups, and families with questions they have regarding difficult topics such as gender diversity, trauma, etc. You will be able to find a page with more information on our workshops at a later date. We provide workshops such as Trans 101, Empowering Transgender Survivors of Trauma, Reconstructing the Power & Control Wheel for Transgender Survivors, Gender & Consent. If you are interested in one of our workshops, please reach out to us.
We have built a strong network with service providers in the community from doctors, therapists, surgeons, mentor programs, and other support groups. Part of what we want to do is help people find the right people to support them on their journey. Transcend Charlotte will be providing therapy services in the future and hopes to expand its current offerings in other ways. For services we don’t provide or if you find our services aren’t a good fit for you, we will be happy to help you find other safe places in the community where you can get support. Our resources page will be available soon but is under construction and will take a while to complete. In the meantime, please visit our contact page to reach out to us, and we will help in any way we can.
Check out our events page for upcoming events hosted by Transcend Charlotte! We introduced ourselves at GenderFusion, a couples lip sync battle, and everyone had a blast! The energy in the room was so powerful as everyone had representation on stage, and the audience truly included people from so many different backgrounds and identities. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the result. We have many events in the planning stages, and we can’t wait to tell you more about them. On this page in the future, you will also find galleries of images from our past events.
